Week 30- rounding the corner...or something like that!

Here we are with anywhere from 7-10 weeks to go before we get to meet our precious baby boy. I don't know- nor does anyone but God- when my little man will be ready to come into this world- but I am sure that I will be ready when he does.

Kelly threw a very nice shower for us on Sunday. Along with help from John, Miss Mary, Dena, Ashley, Jenny & Tim (I'm probably forgetting someone who helped- if that's the case I apologize!). Anyway- it was a very nice shower. We got some really neat and useful stuff, which is I guess the reason for such events. It means a lot to have everyone in our life and in times like these we are especially reminded of their care and love for us. We are bound to be overly spoiled by the time Hudson does arrive because we have a few more showers lined up...next of which is family in Camden, then there's our church family and then our respective workplaces are also looking at helping us get ready for Hudson's arrival.

Hudson is supposedly close to 3 pounds now and he is around 15 inches long. He is still wiggling a bunch- which is a really cool feeling. I experienced what it feels like to have a baby inside you that is experiencing the hiccups for the first time on late Friday night/early Saturday morning. I'm told that it doesn't harm him at all but just the thought of his whole little body convulsing with each hiccup makes me feel bad for him. As Jay said last night- he is a grown man and hates having the hiccups so he can only imagine how our little man feels. I'll have to do some research as to what causes hiccups in babies in utero.

I have contracted some type of cold virus. It started on Saturday night with an achy all over feeling and sore throat. I muddled through Sunday and left work early yesterday and went home to bed. Today is somewhat better but as anyone can imagine a cold is not fun, much less if you are with child because you already have breathing and other issues. Gretchen, Dr. Fuller's nurse- called me back to recommend Tylenol Cold and Flu, which is about all I can take. Everyone have a pitty party for Jaq.... Ahhh poor Jaq...Ok- well, this too shall pass! :)

Papa Bear- Jay- is doing better on his cold/flu situation from a couple weeks ago. He is still coughing a little, worse at night. His issues are also related to needing to have his CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine adjusted. He'd had the pressure lowered last fall when he lost about 25 lbs and didn't need it set as high. In the excitement of becoming a daddy some of that weight has crept back on and he is feeling poorly overall (I can relate- I have some extra weight of my own). I think we are both really ready for a major eating/exercising habit overhaul- however it will be a little while longer before I can partner up with him on it.

Just another reminder- if you are on facebook and haven't notified either Jay or myself please do so. We are both on it - although Jay is much more "on it" than I am- if you know Jay at all this won't surprise you!

Hope ya'll have a wonderful week- Happy Mardi Gras!

The second 4D...

Good profile picture.

That hand...Oh my!
Sweet baby boy!

Please turn your head just a little more..

This is about the best it got...

That's the cord- he isn't picking his nose!

Well- overall Hudson did much better with this ultrasound. Jay had a talk with him (well- with my stomach anyway) in the morning before we left for work...let's credit that with his better facial pictures. I hope ya'll enjoy looking at them as much as we did yesterday. He sure looks like a sweet little man. I know I say this everytime- but we just can't wait to meet him!
We are all doing well. Hudson is wiggling a lot. I am feeling good- but not enjoying the weight gain and feeling short of breath very much. I really can't complain though so I won't! Jay is eager to say "Welcome to my world" if I make any reference to my breathing or to my stomach. I was informed that he has passed knowledge on to a few people that my gutt now hangs over my pyjamas- nice!
We did the family CPR class this week and it was very informative. I just "listened" because I already get my CPR certification for work, but I wanted to be there with Jay. I think that it is an asset for anyone to have this knowledge and highly recommend it (CPR certification). Next month we will have our child birthing weekend classes- we hear it is going to be a large group (17 couples) and that the chairs are not near as comfortable as what we have been used to with these last two classes. Jay is concerned about the permanent visual images that may be placed in his mind with the videos we will be watching! It may not be pretty but thanks to Eve that's the way it's gotta be!
Our friend Kelly will be hosting a shower for us on Sunday evening. It will be nice to get together with everyone and visit. I'm not sure what all she has up her sleeve but I know it will be a good time!
Well- some sad news to end this blog entry with- Miss Betty's precious 96 year-young father passed on into the next life yesterday morning. We will be headed to North Arkansas for the funeral tomorrow. Please say a prayer for them- and for all of us that will be on the road tomorrow. Talk to ya'll again soon!

The 4D pictures...

Hudson's hand covering his face- "Peek-a-boo"

Hudson says, "Talk to the hand!"

Little feet crossed. Knees bent

Hudson's heartbeat...

Do I have to explain this one?

Our precious baby- flexible but precious!

Left arm

Again with the hand in the face- shy???

Left leg.

Face with arm at about mouth level.
Here are the 4D pictures- Jay was able to pull them off the disk they gave us.... Hope ya'll enjoy looking at our precious little man. As you can see he did not want to show his face for anything!

The 4D...

Well- I apologize for making everyone bite their fingernails for these last 5 days since we had the 4D (yeah- right :) but it was pretty cool. I highly recommend them to any of my pregnant friends! I had fully intended to write about it on Wednesday afternoon- but things were crazy at work both Wednesday and Thursday and then we went to Mt. Magazine for the weekend so this is really the first chance I have had to update things...

Seeing Hudson in 4D was very very cool. He was his usual wiggle worm self and though Rita, our ultrasound tech, got the measurements she needed (head, femur, heart) she was not able to get him to turn to get a full frontal view of his face. She tried everything too- had me lay flat, turn to my left, turn to my right and Hudson would not cooperate. He also kept his hands and sometimes his feet (there is a picture of him with his left arm by his face and one of his big toes is on his forehead!) up by his face. All that to say that Rita felt so bad that she offered to rescan him in a couple weeks for FREE! She did not have to do this - we didn't ask her too- but it was very kind of her and we will certainly take her up on it. We are 28 weeks this week and we are going to 2 week visits now anyway so when we go back on Feb 18th (next Wednesday)- we will get scanned again. The BEST part of all of that is that we asked Jim (Jay's Dad) and Miss Betty if they wanted to come and see too. I wished I'd thought of that the first time around but since we get a second chance it I'm not too worried about it. I wish my parents (and siblings) could be here for it too :(

Dr. Fuller had an emergency at the hospital last Wednesday, so we saw Sheila, the nurse practioner, again for our doctor appointment. That was fine because when it is time for me to need Dr. Fuller when Hudson is ready to come into this world I will want him there and not seeing patients! Sheila measured my uterus and she said that based on everything (Hudson weighed 2 lbs 9 oz) we were right on track. They are officially going by May 6, 2009 as the due date now- so no more May 11, 2009. Everything is still going great. I am getting more short of breath with activity and also the urinary urgency is getting worse (OH JOY!)- but other than that I can't complain.

My birthday went fine. Was busy at work and Jay was sick all day (he stayed home and slept) but by the time I got home from work he was feeling well enough to go out. He took me to my favorite restaurant- Igibon- and we had sushi. Of course my involvement with the raw rolls was to watch Jay pick them up with his chopsticks and put them in his mouth- but it was still great. He got me a birthday cake (which we are still eating on) from Community Bakery and was/is very good- chocolate with white frosting (Mom- if you are reading this you can say "Chocolate cake with white icing"...)- sorry everyone but that is an inside joke.

For my present, Jay bought me a Staxx ring with several pieces. If you don't know what a Staxx ring is you need to go to Staxx.com and check it out- but just to offer a simple explanation it is a ring which is the "base" and you can screw on different pieces - different styles, colors and designs so that one ring becomes very versatile. There are colored discs, different metal type carved pieces and then the toppers. They make rings, pendants and earrings and I think they are all interchangeable. I've wanted one since I first saw them so it was a VERY cool present. Plus, I (or Jay ) can keep buying pieces for it so that it makes it into fresh jewlery. That was a really good present for me because I love jewelry!

Friday morning we slept in and Jay had to work a little- thanks to a call his boss made to him...we'll leave that alone. Anyway- we got on the road a little after 1 pm and got to Mt. Magazine just before 4 pm. We had a very nice, relaxing weekend. We spent some time hiking, some time in the jacuzzi tub and a lot of time sleeping. The lodge itself and the view from the lodge are amazing. This particular lodge is just a little younger than 3 years old. It was open in summer of 2006 I believe is what Jay read. One our way out we decided we will definetly have to come back- may even be an annual event...next time Hudson will be with us and Jay had a really cute idea. He said that since the jacuzzi tub is so big we can just fill it up and it can be Hudson's own little swimming pool- isn't that a cute picture??? We both love water so we hope he will be a little fish too.

Saturday was my brother- Patrick's - birthday- Happy Birthday Pat! as well as my good friend- Ashley's- Happy Birthday Ash!

Tomorrow will be Jay's & my 2nd year anniversary- officially. We will both be working the day but not sure if we are going to dinner or what. I'll update ya'll later.

Hudson is doing well these days- he just seems to favor being head-down with his melon on my bladder. I don't understand how hanging like a possum is comfortable but it is his thing I guess. On Saturday for about an hour he changed positions and my stomach looked like a lumpy mass- but he quickly went back to his diver-down position.

Well- I guess that's that- Oh- if anyone is worried about Jay- he is feeling much better. His nurse took good care of him all weekend and made sure he took his medication so he is on the mend!

Later- :)

How Hudson's incubator is doing...

We are week 27 this week. It's a big week for a lot of reasons...first it is the last week of the second trimester (and boy can I tell it about now...more on that in a minute). Second we are going for our doctor's appointment tomorrow and we are going to have a 4D ultrasound so we can see little man!! Yayyy! Third, Thursday will be my 32nd birthday. Fourth, Jay & I are going to Mt. Magazine (a gorgeous resort north of Little Rock) for the weekend in celebration of our 2nd year anniversary, which will be next Tuesday, February 10th. So that's a start to why this is a big week anyway- wouldn't you agree???

I guess it would be logical to discuss these "big deals" in order I listed them. Yep- it's week 27 and the last week in the second trimester which means we are about 13 weeks out from meeting our precious little man, live and in person. This is the same precious little man I'd like to add that has been either sitting, lying or standing on my bladder for the last 24hrs and it sucks! It's a constant urge to urinate- and unlike when you have a UTI (urinary tract infection)- you do have to go and it isn't painful, just annoying. I'll take a step back and say that pregnancy, mine- has been great and I have not had anything to complain about. I know things could be much worse but I would like to spend a little less time traveling to and from the bathroom is all.

In addition to that- how can one small baby be on your bladder and pushing on your diaphragm at the same time? I picture Hudson standing with arms outstretched as if the roof is about to fall in on him- that is how it feels to me anyway!! I have been extremely short of breath in the last week or so, especially after I eat. I feel like the very tall and very large comedian who was on Last Comic Standing a season ago. He was breathing really hard and someone asked him "Lavelle, why are you breathing like that?" and his reply was classic...." To LIVE" he said! That is still one of Jay's & my favorite things to laugh about.

Our 4D ultrasound is indeed in the morning. I may not sleep too soundly tonight (not just cause I'll be getting up to use the restroom either)- in anticipation. We will get to "see" our little man like never before and not again till he is born- so it is a pretty big deal to us. These ultrasounds are not harmful to the baby- other than the inconvenience of the wand mashing down on them. For those unfamiliar with the 4D- or 3D- I'm told that these terms as sometimes used interchangebly. The difference I was told is that 3D are still pictures and 4D sometimes/usually includes video clips of movement. I guess I'll find out tomorrow which one it is we are having- either way we will get to see him move on the screen! I'm sure there will be more to say on that topic tomorrow...

My 32nd birthday is Thursday. I tried for a couple years to tell myself that I didn't have to worry with birthdays (mine) anymore since I was getting older- but it didn't work very well. Fact is, next to Christmas, my birthday is my favorite day of the year- birthdays of those I love and care about are a big deal as a whole to me. Not that I want a fanfare to announce my arrival everywhere I go- because I don't really like attention on me- but I do like to be remembered. My parents- Mom especially, always made it a big day for us and she would give us all kinds of little treats to make it special. I might be a note in your lunch, cooking whatever dinner you wanted and making your "favorite" birthday cake- but you felt like it was all about you. Thanks Mom! Poor Jay's got big shoes to fill (expectation wise)- but I know his little feet are up for it! Jay buys the best presents ever- it's true so I don't mind bragging on him, in fact I do it as much as possible.

I am taking Friday off of work. Just that in itself will be a treat. I love "breaking" routine. Don't get me wrong- structure is functional- but every now and then it is great to break that and feel for a minute what life is really about and that you can separate yourself from the rat race if you want to- have to. We are however also going to Mount Magazine (remember Jay buys good presents and plans good vacations/trips)- for the weekend. We will head up there sometime Friday morning and be back on Sunday afternoon. I am looking forward to some quality outdoor time, appreciating Jay and nature both. The rooms in the lodge aren't too shabby either. They have cabins but we opted to stay in the lodge- king sized bed, huge jacuzzi tub and restaurant quality food in the lodge. Mostly we will have nothing planned and just relax...everyone take a deep cleansing breath with me and say it... "Relax".

I guess that's the latest update in a very large nutshell. I could afford to make it a little longer though since I didn't write last week. Ya'll take care and be in touch soon.

Oh- just one thing- Jay & I are now on Facebook- so if we haven't already pinged you to be "a friend" please send us a message so we can add each other. Thanks in advance.
